The Growth



In three decades of sheer hard work and commitment, the business prospered in Delhi as a reliable rice and grain trading house of high repute selling merchandise domestically in wholesale to bulk as well as in retail in our own shop. The company grew in 60’s and 70’s keeping pace with the changing times that required change in business approach in traditional methods of commodities trading. In 1980’s Government of India allowed export of Basmati rice and Nav Bharat was the first company to procure and handle Basmati rice supplies for indirect exports to Russia & Kuwait and later on began direct exports of Basmati rice on its own to a prime customer in Saudi Arabia in Abukass Brand. Strong personal relations with clients in Saudi Arabia as well as trust of quality basmati supplies with customers support was a turning point for Nav Bharat to grow and expand business during 1980’s and 90’s in Arab world and it continued. Gradually, the company strengthened its market position by shipping large volumes and qualities of Indian Non basmati rice in conventional vessel loads to Multinational Traders based in US, Switzerland, Europe, Singapore and Africa (particularly West Africa). At the same time the company started supplies of De-husked Brown Basmati rice to Rice millers and food groups across Europe & UK and simultaneously focused on its Branded Rice distribution network across India in its flagship Brand Amanat.

During mid 2000’s Basmati trade in overseas markets witnessed more competition with new entrants and stable consumptions. It left no space to grow further in Basmati exports, thus in a quest for maintaining its distinctive position in Indian rice industry the company explored new market. In 2003-2004 Nav Bharat was the first Indian rice company that discovered Persia (Iran) as a major potential rice consuming market for 1121 Sella Basmati rice. No one in Indian rice industry had ever thought or could have been aware of Iran as a new market for Indian Basmati. Nav Bharat shipped first consignment of 1121 Parboiled Sella Basmati rice in Khatereh Brand to Persia. Upon cargo arrival and distribution in the country, this variety became so popular among local households that it opened a gate to India as a new market for greater business, exponentially changing the dynamics of Indian Rice industry.
